Summary:
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a motivated Environmental Compliance Coordinator, who is interested in participating on a variety of projects covering the full spectrum of our services.  The position is part-time and would be located in our Richmond, VA office, but travel to other locations in support of project work would be anticipated.  Working with Project Managers, a successful candidate will be a resource to project teams by offering support and oversight in the areas of environmental law and regulation compliance, sustainability, product stewardship, contaminated site management, and project due diligence. Site investigations and monitoring, technical support, reporting, and coordination with clients, sub-contractors, and regulatory agencies will be involved with the position.  This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging environmental projects for large industrial and global clients. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical assistance and guidance for regulatory compliance in such areas as air quality, erosion and soil control, wastewater and stormwater management, pollution prevention, chemical storage, and waste management, including waste characterization and disposal oversight.
Prepare and review plans, permit applications, and reports for the regulatory areas listed above.
Perform environmental compliance assessments and support implementation of follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Assessments conducted through project review and on-site investigations and routine monitoring during all phases of a project; prepare and submit reports of findings.
Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance as needed, as well as on-site mobilization for emergency spills/releases or other.
Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) to support property transfer transactions.
Conduct environmental field work, including groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and waste material sampling and assorted ecological field investigations and evaluations.
Support with projects in the following areas: environmental audits, consumer product environmental assessments, product sustainability, site investigation and remediation, and due diligence transaction projects.
Participate in agency inspections.
Interpret regulations and read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Conduct project-related meetings and assist in project-specific training. 
Perform multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
 

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, environmental science, or related scientific discipline.
15+ years of relevant environmental experience, including field work. 
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Certification required; dual ESC and Stormwater Management (SWM) Certification preferred.
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and Engineer In Training (EIT) certifications a plus.
Familiarity with CWA (Section 401/404 permitting) preferred.
Must be able to effectively communicate (both verbal and written) and interact.
Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Must pass a drug test.
Local candidates preferred.
