GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering Department Manager to support our Power Business Sector to work out of one of our Pittsburgh area offices.  We are searching for a positive, energetic, proactive person that has the ability to lead a department of design engineering staff as well as solid technical and management skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Management and oversight of a department of civil engineering and design professionals responsible for supporting an diverse range of civil engineering projects across a wide range of industries. 
• Provide technical training and guidance to less experienced staff.
Responsible for career planning, goal development, and compensation management of department staff. 
Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of proposals, budgets, schedules, calculations, and specifications and reports. 
Additional responsibilities include providing design, management, and technical direction and oversight associated with civil components on infrastructure design projects.  
Deliverables of the department typically include the preparation of associated permit application packages (earth disturbance  permits, land development plans, etc), Site Plans, Grading and Drainage Plans, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans, Stormwater Management Plans, design of temporary and permanent Stormwater Best Management Practices (channels, culverts, infiltration, detention, and/or retention structures), design of temporary and permanent access roads, and the development of construction plans, specifications and opinions of probable cost.
Coordinating with and potentially overseeing the completion of work by other disciplines such as: geotechnical, civil survey, environmental, mechanical, electrical and plumbing on multi-discipline projects. 
Managing project assignments in accordance with GAI’s high standards of project management. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining budget, schedule, and quality of said project assignments.
Staying up to speed on regulation changes and agency protocols and requirements.  
Managing and assisting with the development and presentation of qualifications.
 

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Civil Engineering, advanced degree (M.S.) in Civil Engineering is a plus
Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience
Minimum of 4 years of technical staff management experience. Will likely lead a department of 6-10 staff.
Pennsylvania Professional Engineering license required. NCEES registration is a plus (or have the ability to obtain NCEES registration within 6 months of hire).
Strong communication skills and soft skills to manage entry and mid-level staff as well work effectively with internal and external clients.
Ability to travel to other GAI offices to manage staff in Pittsburgh area.
