The Community Solutions Group at GAI Consultants is seeking a Planning Intern to join our Orlando office, adding to our growing planning and urban design team. The successful candidate will have completed at least one year in a graduate planning program, have exposure to public- or private-sector planning experience, and have familiarity with land use planning, redevelopment planning, and/or park system planning. This position will be 40 hours per week from May through August and 12 to 15 hours per week from August through April. The schedule from August to April will be developed to work around your class schedule.
The Planner role is part of our Master Planning and Urban Design team, and reports to the Director, Planning and Urban Design, collaborating with members of our other studios on individual projects. The team draws upon expertise in multiple disciplines to balance physical, social, and economic needs and create urban places that enhance quality of life. We have a broad range of interesting project types for public, private, and institutional clients. We work throughout Florida and in selected locations across the eastern United States. In this role, you will initially support many of our planning projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performing analysis of physical urban form, character, and demography using GIS and other software programs
Creating and interpreting maps, information graphics, and diagrams
Researching elements of comprehensive plan amendments and land development code modifications
Developing support materials with zoning and other land use entitlement approval submittals
General planning to support designated redevelopment, corridor, or mobility area planning and parks and recreation system planning and parks and recreation system planning
Developing tables and utilizing quantitative data
Active participation in team and project meetings
Support the planning, logistics, and public-facing roles in public workshops and community planning sessions
Current enrollment in a graduate program in Urban and Regional Planning. Enrollment in a program in a related field such as geography, architecture or landscape architecture, together with practical experience in the planning field, is acceptable.
Functional use of Excel, Word, Access, and other basic office software is required.
Working technical knowledge of ArcGIS application is required. A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable.
Functional use of modelling software (e.g. SketchUp) is a plus.
